To celebrate the forthcoming victory over the Crimson this Saturday, the nominated drink of the week is the “Harvard Wallbanger” (enthusiastically suggested by Carl Fekula after a day spent last Saturday with Brown Vodka Gummy Bears and a parent victory celebration that included a visit to the Cannon Club).
Our Harvard Wallbanger is a tribute to the 1950’s California creation of the cocktail. As one story goes, the original drink was named after a surfer would quickly head off to his favorite local bar to nurse his reef rash, head dings, and any other maladies from getting axed all day on the waves. Harvey would forget all of his aches by drinking vodka, orange juice , and a little splash of Galliano liquor to tie it all together. His surf day would end by him banging into the walls on his way out of the bar.
Now, changing Harvey to Harvard only slightly alters the expected outcome. After a day of dealing with the Tiger defense, our expectation is to watch the Crimson players bounce off the stadium walls, the ground, and right through the tunnel as they carry that L back to Boston.
So, we’ll be doin’ the pre-celebration during the tailgate with Harvard Wallbangers, partnered with Bloody Crimson Mary’s. The food side will feature Boston Butt pulled pork sandwiches, topped off with red velvet cake. All tributes to the “L” the Tigers are about to deliver the Cantabs (which, as a freshman parent. I’ve learned is the Harvard mascot … a wimpy, little Puritan guy and easily eaten by a Tiger).
Tailgate … big game win … and post game parents reception – what better way to spend this Saturday?
